I bought some pine from the timber merchants the other day. It was sunny at the time, so I left it outside, then a few minutes later it got soaked! Has this done much damage to it?

Probably not!

Most wood merchant timber is already treated and will easily withstand the occasional "drooking". It depends what you are using it for but as it is probably for outside use anyway, it is going to have to stand up to the elements.

If you were making furniture, however, for the house, the wood would really have to be dried off back to a "safe" moisture content, i.e. about 11%, which means that it won't crack and twist in the central heating.
