Chair Rails
The chair has three rails and relies on the six M&T joints (four of which are pinned with dowels) to hold it all together. The rails have irregular cross-sections to accommodate the seat and back slats. I spent quite a while drawing at full scale to get the angles right and a long time deliberating how to form the faces; router, table saw? Eventually I did the honourable thing and cut them by hand with a shoulder plane (I confess, after a quick run with a router just to establish a groove). The outside curves were hand-shaped with a smoothing plane and sanding.
